Apple(s) of my eye December 2, 2008

Last night, I dreamt my water broke on my birthday (again), despite baby girl fetus needing to remain in the womb for at least another 8 weeks thereafter. Strange things surface in the subsconscious during pregnancy. I plan on having a beer for my birthday, not a baby (this time).
Thanksgiving went mostly without any hitches. I made my first apple pie ever in all my 32 years. Thanks be to the food processor for officially banning my fear of pastry-making/pastry-overhandling. The rest of our dishes turned out quite nicely, but I am rather proud of this:
It tasted just as good as it looks. And yes I do intend that to be past tense. We polished off the pie in quick fashion.
Out of utter protest, the only store we set foot in for Black Friday was our local HEB. I’m still quite sickened by reports of death brought on by rampant consumerism. What a tragedy for the man’s family, and what a shame for our country. I try so hard to believe in the general good of my fellow humans, and hope that deep down there is a great Mensch inside of each of us, but that story makes it difficult to have faith in the best of people.
Quinten and I fully intended to get our parade fix on Saturday for the Chuy’s Blue Santa parade. All told, we lasted a total of about 10 minutes. There were people spilling from every sidewalk. Adults paid no mind to standing in front of little kids in strollers. This pregnant lady knew there’d be no way she could stand with 30+ pounds of toddler on her shoulders for an hour. Enroute to our car, I decided to take Quinten to the Austin Children’s Museum. Despite about 5 minutes of protestation from Young Master Q, he had a blast. We killed 2 hours before deciding it was time to recharge with lunch and naps for us both. Here are some photos from that adventure:
We shall have to keep ACM in our bad outdoor weather repertoire, especially now that Radijazz has gone the way of the Dodo.
It was such a busy 4 days off I was sort of happy to return to work on Monday, if only so I could relax a bit.

That pie is *gorgeous*! Yum!!
pregnant lady = crazy dreams.
good looking pie.
